Raymond's elder brother was lost on active service over the North Sea in 1942 in pursuit of the Nazi battleship Tirpitz. Therefore, Raymond became the 11th Baron de Longueuil on the death of his father in 1959. His son Dr Michael Grant de Longueuil is currently the 12th Baron de Longueuil.

This unique title originates from the 17th century empire-building family; the first French settlers of North America. It was granted by King Louis XIV of France to Charles Le Moyne de Longueuil for his travels and explorations throughout North America. The first Baron de Longueuil and his sons secured large wilderness areas for France, which were acquired by the United States in the Louisiana Purchase.

Throughout North America scores of staues and plaques commemorate the extraordinary heritage, achievements and explorations of Charles le Moyne de Longueuil and his family. These include New Orleans, Ottowa, Montreal, Alabama, Mississippi, New York, Pennsylvania and others.
